Hi to all the moms and moms to be! I'm hoping for some advice. I am almost 10 weeks pregnant and had my first family doctor appointment small town eastern ontario a few weeks ago. Ultrasound arranged, bloods taken etc. so all good.
Unfortunately since then a family member has become very sick and I will now be staying with relatives in toronto for the foreseeable future. I won't be able to continue with my local doctor nor undertake ultrasounds etc at the original hospital I was originally scheduled in for.
I have contacted my doctor to explain the situation and ask if it is possible to be referred to an OB here for my future care. Am waiting to hear back. But just wanted to know if an OB would take on someone so relatively early and if my doctor can't refer me if anyone had any other ideas? Should I register with a family doctor here for instance and if so would it be too late for the first scan? Due to age was meant to be having one between weeks 11 and 14
Obviously nervous that everything is going ok particularly with stress of relative's illness. Need to put my mind at rest! Any guidance will be most welcome. Thanks!
Re: Advice Needed on Finding a Doctor
I had my first OB appointment at 11 weeks. Luckily for me she was my GYN first so it was an easy transisition for me. Most of my friends and myself didn't get seen by our OBs until 10-12 weeks (all of us have been low risk pregnancies I should mention).
My OB works out of East General Hospital, if I were you I would contact a local hospital and see who their OBs are and if any of them are currently taking on new patients. If they are have your OB request a referral (if needed) and send any history/lab results before your first appointment.
Good luck!
I was referred to my OB by my family physician when I was around 7 weeks, didn't see her until around 10 weeks. I picked her out because normally my Family dr works with Sunnybrook but I wanted to be closer to home at St. Joseph's so I found an OB there and asked to be referred to her.
Since I was so early I was able to get in with her before she booked up so it was fine. Just figure out what hospital you'd like, then try and find a Dr. that works with them. I found her on ratemds.com but there's other ways to search through govt websites of doctor listings.
