Cmonkey!!"

Your a certified medical assistant?????

Do you like it?? Do you feel that the certificate was enough to land you a good job??

The way it was explained to me was that a AAS would be filled with all around classes and the certificate would be the main classes needed

Re: Cmonkey!!"

  • I just answered in your main post but I'll give you more details. I SAH now, but I loved being a CMA. It was really fun, and rewarding. The schooling was very intensive though because it was such a short and concentrated program. Long days and lots of studying. Totally worth it though. I was lucky to get into a specialty office. That's really the way to go, because they tend to pay more. I was in reproductive endocrinology. When I started they had me doing basic medical assistant duties, but they trained me to the point of doing everything the nurses were doing. I was paid accordingly. I made about $5 an hour more than average starting medical assistant salary. It was great.

Here the AAS program is an LPN program. I don't know if that's how they do it there. If you think you want to eventually become a nurse I'd go that route. If not medical assisting is great too. I may eventually go back for nursing if we are able to swing it financially. But we'll see. I say go for it!

  • Yeah i know that i want to be a CMA im just not sure whether I want to do the certificate or the AAS. Im pretty sure i could go back and take the classes to upgrade it if i choose just the certificate.

I dont think you can do LPN with the AAS but I will look into it.

heres a link to the college and the two ways I could go

  • Wow, those both look like good programs. I don't know how things are in your area, but there are always a decent amount of medical assistant jobs available around here. It's a good career to get into. Good luck with your decision!
