Re: Amelie

  • If our first was a girl, he would have been Amelie.  Loooove it

  • I prefer Amelia.  Do not like Mille as a nn.

  • If our last name was not Italian, this would be one of my top picks.  I would lean towards "ah-may" as the nn.  I have a friend with this name, Ame, pronounced ah-may and I think it is beautiful.

  • Amelie is a very nice name. Do not like the nn, though.

    I think it works.

But, Amelie is gorgeous while Millie kinda cheapens its beauty.  I don't feel that way about other names with Millie has a potential nickname.  Maybe just because this name is French and sounds so lovely when said aloud?  I wouldn't want to shorten it.

    All of this!

  • Love Amelie but I would worry people would mistake it for Amelia and that would get on my nerves.

I agree as well! Amelie is too short for a nickname, too - it just feels like you're trying to use two good names. It isn't necessary, and Amelie is too beautiful to be shortened to Millie. I love Millie, but I think Amelie is too classy for it.

  • How do you say this?? Emily?? A typo of Amelia? I don't get it.
  • My friend's 3yo is named Amelie (pronounced Ah-mel-lee).  Love it.  She will often call/introduce herself as Ah-me, which is super cute and sounds like the French word for "friend".

  • I love the name - I had a roommate in college with that name.  No nickname though - it's so pretty without it!
