Re: Multiple showers?

  • I had three.

My aunt had one for me with my side of the family and some close friends.

My SIL had one for me for DH's side of the family.

My work had a small one for me.

The only overlapping people were my MIL and SIL. They both came to the shower my aunt threw and the one my SIL threw. I'd have had a joint family shower but DH has a lot of family and I was afraid it would be too many people for my aunt and my SIL offered so I said sure.

  • I am having three because my family and friends are in three different locations.  I am going back to Ohio (where I grew up)  for a family and mostly my mom's friends shower. I am going back to Colorado (where I just moved from) for a shower with my close friends, and then one in Iowa for my mother in law and friends I just started meeting here in the last year.

  • I also had 3, and think it's ok as long as you have 3 separate guest lists.  I had: family shower(out of town, I flew), friend shower(local), and work shower.
  • You can have as many showers as you want as long as you have people who want to host them and you don't invite any of the same people to more than 1 shower.  I had 3 showers:  family/friends, coworkers, and church friends.
  • I had a shower in Florida (where i live) and one in Connecticut (where I'm from)

  • I've heard of some enormous showers of 40, even 50 guests.  If that's common where you live, then I can see where it would be odd to consider having several of those!

Around here (Atlanta) showers are usually around 20 guests.  It's not at all uncommon for a sister or cousin to host a family shower and a friend to host a shower for friends.

  • I think I had 4 with DD1.  MIL hosted a family/her friends shower.  My mom hosted a shower of all my friends with my BFF. Stepmom hosted one for my Dad's family (3hrs away).  Work turned a staff meeting/retreat into a "shower".

There were a few gifts that trickled in for DD2 but nothing formal.

It's common for my friends to have a "sprinkle" for a baby of opposite gender.  Usually it's just coffee/pastries/fruit at a friend's house.  The hostess usually also sets up a meal registry.

  • It just depends.  My sister had 1 big one (inviting friends and both hers and her DH's families) and she had a small work shower.

I'll have 4 total.  1 thrown by my side of the family and childhood friends, 1 thrown by DH's family, 1 thrown by my best friends in the town I live now, and 1 work shower.

I didn't ask for any of them.  They were just offered to me and I organized the invite lists depending on who was hosting and where the shower was held.  (ex: the shower held in the town I grew up, the invites were family members and childhood friends)

It just depends on who offers to throw your showers.
