Toddlers: 24 Months+

some potty training bragging

I'm so proud of DS! He stayed in underwear yesterday for almost 12 hours! He wore a diaper to bed and it was wet this morning. We put him in underwear again and its day 2 and no accidents!! He does seem to be dreading going #2 though. Does anyone have suggestions for that? I've heard its normal. He usually poops everyday at the same time and I think he held it yesterday b/c of no diaper. thanks!

Re: some potty training bragging

  • My daughter is only 22 months and decided to wear panties on Dec 21st; so I said ok. The first two days were rough, she would start poop in her panties, stop, and run to the potty; but she didn't finish there. So we went through 3 pairs of panties for one poop. :-)  By the end of the second days, we were golden. She has only had two pee accidents since December 24th. It's amazing, and I'm not exactly sure what we did, except it was her idea. We did give her M&Ms as reward, but now she only requests them sometimes. I'm sorry I'm not much help, i guess.

  • Congrats!! Our ds is 2 years and 3 months. He's been in underwear for about a month now and has been doing great but with some accidents here and there. Poops are the hardest thing!! He tells us he has to go, sits and then does nothing. 5 min later he'll be stinky in his underwear.. SO frustrating! He's also been constipated twice because I think he holds it too much. We just decided to start stool softeners to see if that makes it easier for him to go. He knows he shouldn't go in his pants and he tells us as soon as he does because he doesn't like it but he's too scared to try and push on the potty. So we're trying the softeners and I told him he'd start losing some toys. He LOVES his animals so that's next if he goes in his pants. Good luck!! :)

  • Oh my gosh! It just happened again! He said he had to go so we sat on the potty twice with nothing! So... now his animals are in time out and DS is crying. Maybe this will help give him motivation to go. I don't know what else to try either!

  • I'm not sure you should be punishing him for that. Just my opinion but I would be afraid he won't poop at all if you do that. DS came to me this morning and said, "I wet mommy." I took him to the bathroom to change and he started to cry. When I took his underwear down there was poop. I changed him and hugged him and told him it was okay and try to go in the potty next time. Hopefully he'll get it soon.

  • No help, but I am facing the same problem. DS normally poops everyday. Today he just kept talking about poop, would sit on the potty, and then nothing. I have no idea how to encourage him to poop. So i feel your pain.

  • My DD was afraid to poop on the potty also and the way we got over it was when I saw her show signs ie: concentration, stopped playing and just stood in same spot... I picked her up and ran her to the potty while pulling her pants off and by the time we made it to the potty she was pooping in it. We made a BIG deal out of going poop on the potty and had her say goodbye and flush the toilet herself, she was so excited about it.  After that there was a little hesitation but she continued to go on the potty with no other issues. Good luck! Once you get past that the rest seems to fall into place quickly.

  • just wanted to say I don't think punishing is the way to go, then he might equate #2 = bad

we just increased the reward (she gets a little chocolate santa for a #2) and read books about how it's good and ok & normal and I made a HUGE deal when she finally did go. Keep the fiber and water up and eventually they will get there - we had 4-5 days of semi holding before she 'got' it :)
