My family lives on the west coast and I live on the east coast. My mom is coming to visit next week and will be here the day LO is due. She can only stay a few days and not sure when we'll be able to see each other again. I really want her to meet my daughter my first. I have an appointment tomorrow to ask, but I was curious, did any of your drs schedule an induction for your due date? I don't have GD or high blood pressure, so no medical reason. Maybe it's dumb to ask but I want them to meet.
Re: Do drs schedule inductions on due date?
Whether convenience is a valid reason for an induction is another question. I understand you want your mom to meet your baby, but is making baby come before it's really ready to a fair thing to do? Personally I wouldn't do it, but it's up to you.
No, a doctor won't induce to fit your mom's visit schedule...sorry. They should never induce for a convenience type reason, nor should you want them to. They won't induce unless you have a real medical reason or go past your due date. And let's hope you don't have a medical reason.
But hey, maybe you'll deliver by or on your due date. It's still possible. GL
EDIT: Well I guess some docs will do it for their own convenience, but mine wouldn't and I wouldn't want to do it for my own. I think that's a really terrible reason.
Norah transformed our family January 6, 2013
I was forced/tricked into an induction with DS because of high (for me) blood pressure (was not actually high). I've since switched practices, and the OBs at the new practice won't induce until 42 weeks or because of medical necessity (they are disgusted at the actions of my previous OB).
Personally, I wouldn't do an induction unless something was wrong. My labour was way harder than it needed to be, including a vacuum assisted birth, because DS wasn't in the proper position. Everyone I've spoken to since has agreed that if they'd let me start labour on my own, he probably wouldn't have been sunny side up (ouch!).
I can totally understand wanting your folks to meet your LO, but is there any chance your folks could maybe push out their visit by a week or so? They may not be there for the birth (although FTMs usually go late) but they'd probably see your LO in the first week of their life or so.
I think many offices would let you schedule an induction at or after your edd. They may not encourage it, but many probably would let you. I believe most insurance will pay for non-medical inductions starting after 39 weeks.
Ask your doctor tomorrow about inducing, but also inquire about things like sweeping your membranes to try and get things started. Also, I would start walking like crazy and bouncing on a yoga ball to try and move things along.
