Sleep easy and night time feedings

So we are starting sleep easy tonight and I am not sure what to do for the night time feedings. DS (7 months) has two feedings during the night but he is not a good dream feeder, he usually really wakes up and thinks it's party time. I am afraid the dream feeds are only going to make the situation worse.

Have you all done the weening process or have any of you tried elimination of feeding?

Re: Sleep easy and night time feedings

  • When we did Sleepeasy we didn't drop night feedings because he has always taken in less food than the average baby so I wasn't comfortable stopping. However he also used to wake up and think it was play time so part of the process for us was just feeding him and putting him back down. It was pretty painless. We would feed him and put him immediately in his crib. He never fussed more than five minutes. Maybe try their suggestion and just see how it goes?

  • We are starting tonight as well, and I am honestly worried about that issue also.  However, the book says if you are weaning, YOU want to beat them to the punch and gently wake them prior to their waking, and then it is "part of the process". I am anticipating that there will be crying afterwards.

  • The weaning plan outlined in the book worked really well for us, however, its very easy for me to do a dream feed without waking him up. If I had problems with him waking, I would probably not go in for ALL of his feeds. He was waking 6-7 times a night so if he was not good at dream feeding I probably would have only tried for, say, 3 of those times. If he wakes up and wants to party, he is just going to have to learn to get himself back to sleep, that's what it's all about. I know that makes it much harder on you, but just think, you could potentially end up with an expert sleeper at the end of it all! GL!

  • So I just went in to dream feed. He was so passed out he refused the bottle! Guess I will try for the second dream feed around 2 am as planned.

Also he only fused for 20 minutes when I put him down tonight. So far so good
