Do you mean a crib mattress? Then, no. A crib is a different size than a pnp, so the mattress will not fit. A pnp comes with its own pad. I have heard of some people using only a pnp in the beginning, but usually they transition to a crib later on. The pnp pad, even with a padded cover, never seemed that comfortable to me, so I only used it away from home.

But you can buy the Naturepedic Portacrib mattress to use instead or on top of existing pack n play mattress. It is the same dimensions as the pack n play. We use that mattress in our original size Arm's Reach CoSleeper.
We are using a pnp as the main sleeping arrangement for LO until we move into a new house (he will be approximately 2-3 months old at that point) then we are transitioning to a crib. The pnp I bought sells mattresses that fit into the bassinet feature for $28. Try looking on amazon to see if your pnp also sells additional mattresses.
Any mattress you put in a PNP (or any crib/bassinet) should be a very snug fit and it's not recommended by the manufacturer at all. Just something to keep in mind if you are looking to swap out what comes with the PNP.

Another option if you are looking for a smaller sleeping place is the mini-cribs. They are about the same size as a pnp and most convert to twin size beds later. I considered it for my 2nd crib for the twins, but then felt guilty about one having a bigger crib than the other and who would get the small one. Silly, I know... but hey, the life of a mom

A standard crib mattress is too big for a PnP, plus putting a different kind of mattress in it other than what is supplied is a safety hazard. I used the PnP for DS as his crib when we first moved here, for about a month. Our furniture hadn't been delivered yet so we didn't have his crib to use, but he slept fine in the PnP.

This is a very personal decision for you and your family. In the end do what you are most comfortable with and fits your situation.
I used a pack n play as the primary sleeping quarters (aside from my bed) for my daughter from birth until she was ready for a toddler bed. To be honest, I have always found cribs to be a waste of space and money.
I loved the idea of folding up her bed and taking it everywhere I needed to (even flying with them is easy and like the stroller and car seat, they didn't charge for checking it).
It was also convenient to have it in our room at night but move it to her room during the day for naps and such, not to mention transitioning her into her own room when it was time for her big girl bed.
The one I had was adjustable to every age (watch weight limits though!!) and even had a vibration and music feature. It was awesome!! We will be getting one this time around again.
