This is my second pregnancy, so I am not too nervous about the whole labor and delivery part, but more the induction. I have fraternal twin boys and I will be 38 weeks tomorrow. They estimate they both are over 6 lbs.
Good luck! I was induced at 37 weeks, and it was really good. After two doses of misoprostil to ripen my cervix, I went into active labor on my own no pitocin. My body just needed a kickstart to get things going. Hopefully you'll have a similar experience!

I'm really sorry to hijack this thread, but is the use of misoprostal common in inductions? This scares me... I had a missed miscarriage last year and took misoprostal to dispel the embryo. I had a bad experience where I ended up in the ER twice in two days due to excessive blood loss and still had to have a D and C. I never want to take that medicine again! I'd heard of using Pitocin to get contractions going, but not misoprostal.
I was given pitocin only. After a long day I stalled at 6cm and decided to get a Cs. Baby b was breech and both were as big as us predicted even though doc kept telling me how off they can be. 7.3 & 7.9 lbs.
I would recommend eating something light before you go as getting set up takes a while. Bring stuff to do as it will be a long day. Also, as hard as it will be get a good night sleep the night before!!! We were up late packing our bag and getting stuff ready and then were up more than 24hrs by the time we got into a room.

Thanks for the tips, and well wishes. I was wondering what to eat before hand. Will eat some toast and bring a banana. Will update everyone on the progress!
Good luck! I basically had to be induced with my first after my water broke but I never got into a regular contraction pattern. I only had Pitocin and went from 3-10cm in 1hr 15 minutes! I wish you a smooth labor and delivery!

Pitocin is used to induce contractions. You can't have Pitocin until your cervix begins to dilate. I wasn't dilated at all when I went in for my induction, so they had to ripen the cervix. Cervadil is another medication that will do the same thing. My hospital used the Misoprostil.
I do know that the dosage for an induction is much lower than for a missed miscarriage or for retained placenta which I had, but chose to treat surgically.
