I am 35 and plan to ttc right after I get my IUD out in a couple of weeks. Can you tell me your age (if you can) and how long it took you to conceive. Much appreciated :-)
I have been pregnant 4 times and 2x in the past yr. I conceived the first month we tried each time. I am 36. If u are just getting your iud out I would wait a couple months to ttc and start taking prenatals and an extra folic acid. This will also give your body a chance to start normal cycles again.
I have the added issue of having PCOS. With my first I had no cycles after I came off b/c. After several mnths I saw an RE and got pregnant w/my daughter the first medicated cycle. I was 35.
My current pregnancy, I had regular cycles and got pregnant quickly 2x, both resulting in miscarraiges. Then 3 failed cycles with my RE, got pg again 2nd cycle after stopping treatment and I'm now 10 1/2 weeks. In total it took 1 year. I'm 38yo now.
I tried for 3 months before talking to my OB who tried me on Clomid and an IUI one month. I got pregnant that cycle, but had a missed m/c. After that she said we could try again or go straight to an RE for IVF with PGD because of my age (42). We decided to go to the RE and I had IVF with PGD last summer. We transferred one embryo that didn't take. DH and I decided to wait out the holidays until trying again with our remaining embryos. Surprisingly, I got pregnant naturally the second cycle after my failed FET/IVF try. That was just over a year since starting TTC.
TTC 10/11. IUI 2/12. BFP 3/8/12. 4/26/12 missed mc. RE consult 5/17/12. IVF #1 ER 7/13/12 53R, 41M ICSIed, 32F, 8 5d, 6 6d blasts - all PGD/frozen. PGD results 1 normal M and 1 normal F, 1 maybe M. FET 9/6, transferred 1 F embie. Beta 9/15 BFN. FET#2 planned for 11/2012 put off until 2013. Surprise BFP 11/21/12!! My son was born on 7/24/13!
FET 4/28/2015 - Transferred 1 M embie. 5/6/15 BFP!
I got pregnant while on the pill at 33 and that ended in MC. I had one cycle and got pregnant with DS on the first try after that. With this one, it took 7 months and I am 38.
Good Luck!

I got pregnant on the pill (and using a condom that clearly broke!) when I was 26 and not trying to get pregnant at all.
I was 37 when I started TTC (back in October 2011), after being on the Mirena for 5 years (and depo-provera for the 6 years before that). I got pregnant finally in June after 9 months of actively trying (charting, OPKs, etc) but miscarried at 7 weeks. Then I got pregnant 3 cycles later in mid-September; I'm now 18 weeks pregnant.
My only treatments were using Pre-Seed (because I have no CM to speak of naturally), Clomid for two cycles (no luck there), an HSG (nothing doing there, either), and one U/S and blood test to see if I was ovulating one month because we suspected I had a ruptured cyst (two cycles before I got pregnant). Oh, and it wasn't a treatment, but MH and I basically had marathon BDing starting the day AF ended and up through my temp shift-- i.e. 3 days past ovulation.
I got pregnant twice while 38, both on the third cycle. I did chart & use OPKs. I also have a very regular cycle (even after my m/c, it was shorter, but still regular).
I was on the pill for several years and my husband and I decided to start trying around the 4th of July. I am 39 y/o and it took 6 cycles. I was going to be referred to a fertility clinic after the New Year (now) if I was not pregnant but got confirmation just before Christmas...I'm now 6 weeks. Good luck to you!

I am 38. All total it took me 12 years but there were more breaks than there was time that I could try. This go around it took over 20 cycles and I have IVF with ICIS and AH. Don't let me scare you, I am not the norm.
When I was 35, we tried for 6 mos without help. Month 7 I took 50 mg of Clomid and got my BFP. This time, I was 38 and tried 3 mos with Clomid only. On the 4th month, we did Clomd (50 mg), Ovidrel (trigger) and IUI and got a BFP with twins. We lost one of the twins recently but the other looks good so far.
I'm 35. It took us 8 months. I'm 7 weeks 4 days now. I'll be 36 when the baby's due. It was definitely scary that it took so long. We actually started to think we were just infertile. If you're open to fertility treatments, you might want to set yourself a deadline - like 6 or 9 or 12 months - after which, if you're not pregnant, you'll go get help. We never reached our deadline (9 months), but it helped decrease my stress knowing it was out there. Good luck!

Before you set a deadline, it is important to understand what fertility treatments mean financially. Many people have no coverage. I did have coverage but my insurance would not have covered it if I would not have understood my policy. My plan doesn't cover testing or treatment until one year at any age. Other plans cover at 6 months after 35. My plan covers at less than 6 months if other factors are present such as endo. Even with that I still paid out over $60,000 for alternative treatments, co-pays, and things that my insurance did not cover.

I agree with this advice--taking a few months to get your internal household in order is never a bad idea.
I am 41 and it took me 4 cycles to conceive (this is my first pregnancy ever). I feel very fortunate.

Re: How many cycles?
I got pregnant the 1st cycle with DS1, right around my 35th birthday, and the 2nd cycle with DS2 when I was 38.
I was very, very lucky to conceive so quickly.
Good luck to you!
