We decided to switch Evelyn's room to try to see if she'll sleep better at night. (The room we had her in originally gets pretty stuffy and the air exchange is right up against it, so every time it kicks on, she wakes up.)
What a pain in the hiney!?!
We had to totally disassemble the crib to get it out the door (after we tried taking the door off the hinges first). The closets are different sizes, so now all the stuff from one room won't fit in the closet in the other. Argh.
Then DH's dad shows up with furniture that was his great-grandfather's. Seriously, it's like 100 years old. That's cool and all, but it's UGLY. He was going on and on about this furniture, and how it's "Bird's Eye Maple", and he really thinks we should take it. I will never agree to take furniture again sight unseen, even if it has sentimental value. Now we are stuck with this hideous stuff and we can't get rid of it because it's a family heirloom.
Re: What were we thinking? (vent/whine/rant)
Ugh, hopefully it will be worth it in the long run.
As for the furniture, could you refinish it? Most of our furniture was from DHs grandmother. It was also pretty hideous, and old and just not our style. I refinished it all. For DDs room I sanded and spray painted it white. For our dining room I sanded it and stained it really dark. It's actually really nice now. You couldn't tell its not part of a set now. Plus old furniture is solid and I'd rather refinish that than buy new.
