Third Trimester start at 27 or 28 weeks?

Does it start at 27 or 28 weeks. Most of stuff I am seeing says 28 weeks but some says 27. If you do the math, 40 divided by 3 is 13.3. and 13.3 plus 13.3 is 26.6 so i am curious as to why alot of books/sites are saying 28 when it should be 26.6 ( pretty much 27) thoughts? I am turning 27 weeks tomorrow and was hoping to be able to say I am entering my third tri LOL!

  It's a made up term, but dividing 40 by 3 does make it 26.6 as you point out.

I think it just depends who you ask. The pregnancy book I'm using says 26 weeks.

I've typically seen people go by 28 weeks...

My doctor today said that it starts at the START of the 28th week -- once you are "27 weeks pregnant" it means that you have 27 weeks BEHIND you and are in your 28th week.  So tomorrow I hit 27 weeks, and Friday I will start the third tri.

I've always considered it 27 weeks so that's what I'll go by this time as well. I usually just avoid saying what trimester I'm in during the gray time periods though.

My pregnancy journal starts the third trimester at 25 weeks, which I think is absolutely ridiculous.  Most other things I've seen say 27 or 28, though.

OMG! Third Trimester!  Why is this just now hitting me???  This has been going along smooth and steady and I'm thinking I've got all the time in the world.....but third trimester doesn't make it feel like I've got all the time in the world. That kind of seems like panic and do a lot of online shopping time to me!

I know how you feel!! Yesterday I said to DH , 'we have 3 months and 1 week til the due date!' That makes it feel so long still, but then someone mentioned 'third trimester' today and I was like 'omg! Its almost over!' I love being pregnant and don't want it to end, although I want my baby here!

I say 27 weeks, but I doubt the Trimester police will throw you in jail in you say you're in your 3rd tri at 26 weeks

My pregnancy book says that the start of your 27th week marks the beginning of 3rd tri. So when your ticker is at 26 weeks and 1 day, you'll be in the beginning of your 27th week.  At least that's how I'm counting it for my own personal knowledge.  I probably won't announce to anyone that I'm in 3rd tri until I'm in more clear territory, like the 28th week.
