toy purge

Do you pack away toys to make room for the new ones?

DS still loves playing with all of his toys, I'm having a hard time figuring out which ones to pack away.  I just dont have room for everything since Christmas.  The toys have gotten bigger!

Suggestions?

Re: toy purge

  • Yes, we did just after Christmas.  I have a bin full of toys we are donating.  They are mostly teething toys, those tinkle toys that are supposed to hang on infant car seats, and other newborn/infant toys.  Toys I have not seen her playing with for ages.

Then, anything that seemed still age appropriate that was not new for Christmas I packed away in a Rubbermaid storage bin in her closet.  Once her Christmas toys get old I'll start rotating the toys around so that they "seem" new or at least something different.

  • I have been thinking about putting some things away too. We are running out of space, and there is definitely stuff she doesn't use much anymore. It makes me so sad though, so I know I am putting it off. I will probably just pack the stuff away in bins and save it in hopes of #2.

  • I've been putting away a lot of things that have smaller piece. I'm enraged by clutter lately and small things are making my eyelids twitch.

  • Yep, we do it at least twice a year.  We get rid of toys after his birthday and after Christmas to make room for new toys.

  • Yes. At least I put a bunch of things out of sight. We recently got storage for toys that I want to keep out, and we have the Little Tykes huge toy box for a bunch of toys we aren't really using right now. I also have a large tote full of more hand-me-down cars, toy animals, little people, etc than I know what to do with! image image

  • We have DS2 on the way so I'm not going to bother packing away old toys, plus DS1 really does play with all of them. With his bday and Xmas I tried to not put out ALL the toys at once and I find keeping the playroom clean helps.. If toys are everywhere I feel like he can't even really see what he has and doesn't play with anything haha
