Preemies

Looking for clothes that fit

My son is IUGR born on 12/12/12 at 37 weeks. He came home yesterday from the special care nursery in newborn sized clothes but I cuffed the sleeves and the pants. The problem is he's just shy of 5lbs but he's 19inches long. Preemie clothes that I've found are just a bit too small. Does anyone know of any brands of preemie clothes that run long or newborn that run short? Oh my!

  • we had the same problem lol! babies r us newborns are short enough and my ds was 5lbs when we put him in it and it fit good. just wash and dry the sleepers first and they haver a good fit. gymboree has a 5-9lbs sections of stuff and that fits my little girl who is about 18in now and 5.5lbs. we just wash and wear the same few things until they get a little bigger!! good luck!!!

  • Gerber clothes tend to shrink.  Maybe those in NB would work?   Gap runs tall so those work for longer babies.

  • DS was IUGR too...I think Gerber cIothing runs small, so I would try the newborn size in those?

  • My LO wore preemie sizes from Carters and BRU.  Gerber does run small, but even the nb size was huge on her at first.

Gerber clothes tend to shrink a lot in the wash, so maybe you could get some of their sleepers and onesies to put on him.  TBH, I would probably just continue to cuff the NB stuff and wouldn't invest in too many new clothes that might be shorter because he probably won't be in them too long.

I agree, DD wore the newborn gerber onsie and a swaddling blanket for the first few weeks.  I really only put pants on her when we went in the car seat.  The Carter's nb stuff fit her once she reached 6lbs again and was around 19 inches tall.

I just embraced the rolled cuffs and big baggy jammies, pretty soon things will fit!

  • My little guy was also IUGR. When we came home from hospital at 4lbs 1oz, he was wearing Gymboree's up to 5lb size. He was short though at only 16.5 inches. In general, the Gymboree sleepers run long and lean I think. My sister had he little boy at 35 weeks and he was about the same size as your son. The 0-3month and 5-9lbs sleepers worked really well on him. I know people say not to invest to much in little clothes because they out grow them quickly, but we are still wearing 5-9lbs and NB at 3 months old. I also agree that Gap stuff runs really long and they have a up to 7lb size.
