Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Stopped sttn? Xp 3-6

My son had been sttn but out of no where for the last month he has been waking up 2x a night. I dont understand why but its killing us since my husband has to be up at work at 5 am every morning and my medicine knocks me out at night and I just cant wake up with him. He has a tooth coming in but that is a new development not the whole month that this has been going on. Any help or suggestions would be amazing and appreciated beyond belief.

Re: Stopped sttn? Xp 3-6

  • My first thought would be along with the teething, would be a growth spurt.  Has he increased eating at all?  Have you started solids?  He might need to increase his ozs at his last feeding.

For us, if something gets off with DS- we kinda just go down a checklist and see what the issue could be.  So maybe for a week or so, you need to offer a late night dream feed to make sure he is full enough to STTN.

It's hard to say without more info on your DS regular schedule, feedings, etc.  Hopefully it passes soon!  Good luck!

  • I wonder if it is because he's hungry I can try to add another jar of food before bed. I cant handle the Ferber method my cousin does it and I dont know how she does it I cant stand him crying alone.

I'm probably not going to be very helpful because all I can say is get used to it! (I mean that in the nicest way!)

With teething and all the things babies go through in this first year (or two), sleep is going to get messed up. My LO is a great sleeper but still goes through phases where he just wakes up crying for no reason. When I go in to get him, he immediately falls asleep on me so I know he doesn't actually need anything other than mom. Teething, seperation anxiety, developmental milestones...all these things mess up sleep AND, we all wake up multiple times in the night so that's pretty normal.

I know it makes for a tired mom and dad but that's kind of the way it goes :(

This! My DD STTN at 4 weeks and was sleeping 12+ hours at night at around 6-8 weeks. It was amazing. Then, she turned 5 months. She still isn't awful, but it seems to be always something. She is usually up 1-2 times now to eat. Teething, growing, milestones, sick...it seems to be a different thing for her each week. She'll STTN 8-10 hours once in a while now, but now it's not the norm like it used to be!

  • As a FTM I think I was doing something wrong to cause him to stop sttn. I will try to offer an extra round of solids before bed. Good to know its normal

  • We uppped his solid foods making sure he got an extra jar and went out and bought overnight diapers instead of just the cruisers we were putting him, he slept through the night I'm not sure if it was a fluke or not but it was nice
