May 2012 Moms

Back 2 days early!!! Probably long but I included a MIL rant ;)

FINALLY! So excited to be back from my intense 3 weeks with family. (Recap for those who missed it I left my home on the 13th of Dec to spend 1 week at my mothers, 1 week at my fathers and 1 week with the ILs for Christmas; yes we do enjoy pushing our mental boundaries). I love my family and even my ILs but 3 weeks is much for anybody, no? Well DD obviously got an intense haul of toys and clothes; no idea where to begin putting stuff. I'm thinking I'll put it all in storage and pull out toys to switch when she gets bored with old ones.

DD was also baptised which was a really nice service (I'll try to post a pic at the end of this...). She wore the gown that was bought for DHs aunt 40 years ago and has been worn by every girl since. It was brought over from England to his aunt in Calgary who then sent it to us in Ontario. A bit of a hassle but overall worth it for the sentimental value and she looked so darn cute in it.

Christmas was crazy of course since we had to drive all over because everybody wanted her on the 25th. ILs for breakfast and gift opening, lunch and gifts at my mothers, then supper and gifts at my fathers, oye! My mother is a wonderful lady but I gladly moved out as soon as I turned 18 because she can be very intense. Just everybodys normal life is lived at a 6 where she lives life at 11; like when she's happy she's HAPPY (dancing, singing, hugging) and when she's angry it's ANGRY (slamming doors, throwing stuff-not at people but on her own in her room). Just a lot to handle in general.

My dads was a welcome vacation because I am just like him, and super laid back. DH didn't want to leave lol. It was so nice to go there second as a break from my mother and mental prep for MIL.

MILs was OK considering we had our talk a while back about her over-stepping and doing things her way and not our way. (Recap for those who missed my last rant on the ILs basically they were watching DD and did NOTHING we told them to do including letting her suck the chocolate off of 3 cookies, among other annoying offenses). Twice I had to correct her tho, I swear it goes in one ear and out the other.
One night I caught her feeding DD a TOOTSIE ROLL. A whole toostie roll. Seriously? Yeah. Then on the night before we left she was in the kitchen with DD in her highchair watching, and she fed her half a bread roll. (Fine, DD likes bread but really? Why fill her up on bread!?) Then later when we actually ate supper I was trying to give her carrots, asparagus, and potatoes mashed by spoon, MIL sitting on the other side of her, kept giving her bread! I didn't want to cause a scene at the table so I kept moving it aside and giving her GOOD food and she kept giving her more. Then I said out loud to DD (but really to MIL) "no more bread right now, eat some good stuff and then have some bread" but she still gives her bread! I picked it up and ate it myself as she put it down. I told her afterward "I KNOW DD likes bread but I'd rather give her nutritious food than filler." Her response as usual "well she'll like what she likes when she's older so don't get too set on trying to give her what you WANT her to eat." What? She LOVES carrots and asparagus actually, but like me if you give me carrots, asparagus or ICECREAM I'll eat the icecream. Keep it away from me and I'll eat the good stuff. She may turn picky later, most kids hit a phase, but for now, F*CK OFF. That part was in my head lol.

Also experienced our first baby choking incident. On New Years Eve, DD was playing on the floor and I turned my head for a second because the dog was barking at something out the window. Well suddenly DD makes this weird squeak noise I've never heard before. I look and her face is pink and tears are coming down her face. I drop down to her and suddenly foamy saliva is pouring out of her mouth. I open her mouth and don't see anything so I grab her, flip her and do baby heimlich. No change, I yell for DH who is sleeping and comes running while I'm doing it the second time, flip her and check and she's fine. Breathing and smiling. I do a check and sweep again and a tiny piece of clear plastic the size of my thumb nail comes out. SCARIEST MOMENT OF LIFE. So glad I did the CPR class for children. I did it a couple years ago and after this I plan to renew it but holy shiz. Scariest end to the year ever.

Anyway, in all that craziness, DD wasn't sleeping great from moving all over and all the stimulation so we left a few days early. I'm so glad to be back in my own home with my own bed. Plus bump mobile was so hard for my tech challenged brain to use.

Hope you all had great (less eventful) holidays!

  • first off... welcome back! glad you made it alive! haha

wow oh wow... lots of stuff! btw, she looks adorable in her baptism dress!!!

I can't believe your MIL would continue doing that... I'd be pissed... I get agitated with my dad and step mom when they were doing things the way "they wanted" and not the way H and I wanted... but, a friendly conversation about it, and we are all good now...

I bet it was super scary when she was choking! I really should go back and update my CPR license... Josh has his, but I don't think with infants... I should look into that...

but, glad to see you back!

  • Oh my!  A tootsie roll!  I'd be so mad!

I'm glad everything worked out with the choking!  That's such a scary one.

She looks too cute in that dress!  DD was christened in the same dress that my mother and I were.
