Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Just need to vent

My poor kid.

We just moved and she has had to go through a plane trip complete with time changes plus an extra bonus time change (daylight savings?) in early November.  Now she has a new home (another time change), a new room, a new town, she's been through several holiday and goodbye parties which have been exhausting and overwhelming for her where everybody wanted to hold her (she screamed the entire time they tried).  She loved her daycare provider and tomorrow she needs to start a new daycare.  So, basically, she's been ripped from everything familiar and thrust into this new situation so I understand, really, I get it.... but I'm exhausted.  She wakes up every 2 hours and she just cries all the time unless I'm holding her.  She won't let dad (or anyone else) hold her and I can't put her down even long enough to go to the bathroom without her screaming.  I'm trying to increase the amount of time that I let her cry (we are up to 15 minutes now), but it makes me sick to my stomach to hear her.  I'm supposed to start a new job next week and she's supposed to start daycare tomorrow and I'm listening to her sob up in her room while dad tries to comfort her and I really don't know what to do anymore.  I feel like I've read about a million sleep solution books and none of them help because they don't start with - what do you do if your child is traumatized and seems terrified when you put her down?  Anyway, I'm sure we will get through this.  She has never been a difficult baby and I think that's what makes it so hard to listen to her cry.  Maybe I've just been too spoiled up until now.  Poor DH, poor DD....

  • I'm so sorry you and your LO are going through this.  That definitely sounds like TOO much change for a new baby.  I'll be praying things get easier soon for all of you:)

  • I'm so sorry for you. It's gotta be hard on you too with all the changes. Hang in there and hopefully you both adjust quickly and things go back to normal.

Your poor family :( This change sounds like it's so hard on everyone. Right now your LO needs you...plain and simple. With so much changing, she really needs a parent to depend on and give her a sense of normalcy. I know it must be tough and I'm sure you are SO tired but I think it will just take time for her to be comfortable again. I'm not sure how old she is but I would think any sleep training might be too much for her right now with everything that's going on. Do you have a pediatrician you can talk to?

I agree with her, but I'm so sorry your going through this I know its tough! I have a high needs baby and deal with this on a daily basis so I know its hard. But your lo needs you and some sense of comfort and normalcy. For my lo what I would think about is trying to give her familar things, favorite blanket, nighttime animal, smells like your shirt in the crib etc.  Poor thing it will probably take time, I hope you get some rest soon!
