MH and I are fairly set on Macallen Paul for our little boy (pronounced Mah/callen). Allen is my FIL's mn and Paul is both MH's and his late uncle's middle name. It is a Gaelic/Scottish name that I think sounds strong and unique without being trendy. Opinions? Thank you!

I am so tired of McFirstnames. They are actually quite trendy in recent years, although more used for girls by people who don't really understand what Mc and Mac mean. I love Allen on its own.
I've never seen Macallen as a first name before. I suppose is sort of makes sense as "son of Allen" if your FI's name is Allen, but I do think it's a little odd to use a surname that isn't a family name as a first name. That said, it is not offensive sounding.
One thing to consider though is that the Mc- names are currently a HUGE trend . . . for girls. All the McKinley/Mckayla/Mckenzie/Mckenna names are having a big moment right now, so even if Macallen is unusual, it will be lumped in with that crowd to some extent.

Allen Paul or Paul Allen is nice though.

I really like it
It's unique without being weird and doesn't scream trendy, it reads more classic to me. I'm a fan
I love Paul as MN, but I'm not a fan of Macallen.
Is Callen Paul an option? You could use Cal as NN.
