Preemies

DH is sick :

My31 weekers are almost 3 months. We've been uber vigilant about germs but DH is sick with a cold. Obviously we are fearful for their health. Clearly hand washing must be amped up...no kissing...but I need DHs help with them! He can still hold/feed them right? What do you do when you or your DH is sick around your preemie/ies?

Re: DH is sick :

  • My DH has been sick twice.  He has slept in the guest bedroom at night while I handle the twins.  He didn't pick them up but was helpful at entertaining the other one while I put one to bed or fed one, etc by singing and dancing which was hilarious for me to watch too.  He was super careful about hand washing as well as showering and changing when he came home from work.

Both times we wasn't too sick and it didn't last long. If he gets the super bug that is going around I might send him packing to his parents house and ask my mom or MIL for help in the meantime.

GL Fingers crossed the babies don't get sick.

  • MH and I both got sick last spring when my daughter was newly home.  The sick person always slept in the other room and only came into contact with the baby when necessary.  With proper precautions he can definitely still help out.  Just do lots of hand sanitizing and possibly have him wear a mask when feeding or in close contact with the babies for more than just brief time.  I also recommend sanitizing lightswitches, doorknobs, kitchen pulls, faucets, etc multiple times a day.

  • We're going through this now.  He is helping, but he does not touch her hands and tries not to breathe in her face.
