My DD just turned 6 months... already!
We have started solids and for the most part she is enjoying new food! My question for you guys is do you give your LO a little food to try and experience feeding themselves? Or do you just stick to using a spoon at this age?

Try it both ways and you'll soon know what works for your baby. I always planned to do BLW, and everything I read said start that at 6 months. DD is 6 months tomorrow (sorry for jumping on this board early!), and it has been very clear for the last 2 weeks that she wants food, so we've started the process early. She is showing the she is very capable of self feeding, and she will also take a loaded spoon from us and feed herself from it. I was expecting her to take a while to get the hang of things, but so far she's doing great.
on the other hand, my good friend has a ds who is 8 weeks older than my dd and he is not interested in self feeding one bit. I think it totally depends on the baby, there's no right or wrong.
We started solids at 6 months and did some purees, but mainly table foods. She did a lot of playing and experimenting at first, but is now getting really good with her pincer grasp, picking up food, chewing and eating. She absolutely loves everything and gets really excited whenever she sees food.
Daycare was not comfortable with giving her finger food that early on so she gets purees there. It definitely doesn't have to be all or nothing!
