coughing toddler

DS has had a constant cough for a couple of days.  It is just a normal "cold-type" cough - not phlegmy, just a throat tickle.  I can't get anything to help it.  I have tried a couple different medicines with some combination of Antihistamine, Cough suppressant, and/or Decongestant, but his cough continues.  (I have only given him 1 tsp. before naptime or bedtime each day.)  I would love to hear some other remedies that have helped your LOs coughs.

TIA!

  • We have used a few tablespoons of honey. It is suppose to coat the throat better than cough medicine. Also we have a cool mist humidifier in her bedroom. Or a vaporizer might help. Also we add a chest rub like vicks baby rub. HTH

  • We don't give our kids the OTC cough/cold meds except Hyland's- I really like their PM one in particular, it really seems to help my LOs sleep when they have cough & stuffy nose. GL!  We also use vicks on the chest/back and humidifier. And we're big fans of the nosefrida nose sucker for stuffy noses. If their noses seem really stuffed up and they can't breathe through them & we can't suck much out, I'll give a little Benadryl at bedtime, but not for cough.

  • I second the Hylands cough medicine!  I saw quite a few people recommend it on here a while back and I started using it for DD.  It really seems to work well.

  • I bought Zarbees cough suryp. It's all natural honey and melatonin. Works great at night.

  • i've never given mine medicine other than ibuprofen with a high fever. with a cold/cough, i just put vicks rub on her feet with socks and have recently been putting some on her chest. i also make sure to give her extra liquids during the day to flood it out of her.

  • I know it sounds crazy but some baby Vicks on the bottom of the feet at night then cover with socks and they won't cough all night. Our pedi recommended and it worked a miracle
