blocking sun while rear facing...

DD has transitioned to the convertible carseat rear facing of course, but the sun hurtts her little eyes since there is no more shade like her infant carseat. Highway Patrol installed the caseat and recommended no after market products in the car this includes a shade that i could suction on the back window. So how am i suppose to provide shade for my dd who hates sun in her eyes????

We use the static cling sunshade. It isn't the greatest because it never smooths out so it has bubbles but it blocks the sun, and we live in Vegas.

It sounds like a CYA move on the part of Highway Patrol. You can add a sun shade that clings to the window (with or without suction cups). Perhaps, the patrolman was meaning not to attach any sunshade to the carseat itself (I could see that being a safety issue).

I was worried about the cling shades heating up in the sun and making the car smell so I bought little suction cup hooks (the kind for suncatchers) and put an old receiving blanket on them. it has worked great so far, and i have needed the blanket occasionally for this and that, so I'm very glad i had it. I also tried just putting the blanket in the crack of the window and rolling it up, but that was terrible when it rained (oops) and my husband has a minivan it doesn't work with. good luck (i think my LO might be part vampire, so we're all about finding shade.)

We use the window cling - Eddie Bauer brand, I think, and it works fine.

I think the suction shade thing is that in a crash it could fly off and become debris.  Now honestly, how much injury could be done by a suction shade is another question - the ones i've seen are very light.  (The mirrors - which are usually also frowned upon - I could see as a risk because they are a little hefty, but a shade?!)  So I think it comes down to playing the odds game.....how risky do you think your shade is in a crash vs. having a miserable baby.

We use a sun shade that hooks over the window. So it doesn't use suction cups, and I can't see it coming loose in a crash.
