Post-nasal gag reflex

I'm still getting over my annual Christmas cold, but the problem I'm running into is that my post-nasal drip is triggering my gag reflex worse than ever. It's the worst in the morning, and combined with my tooth-brushing dry heaves, I don't know what to do, and the dry heaving will last for hours. It's gotten so bad some days that I've almost had to pull over in the middle of my morning commute. Does anyone else have this? How are you coping with it?

Re: Post-nasal gag reflex

  • Blech - me too! After fighting the flu, a sinus infection, and now a cold - all in the past 5 weeks. My answer remains the same in response to "how do I get rid of post nasal drip?" My best solution is to use a Neti-Pot. Seriously, it works wonders. It's a really weird sensation at first, but once you get used to it, it feels so good! If you get one, follow the instructions VERY carefully to stay safe. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I just wanted to say, I'm having the same problem. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything to work for me.

  • This is me a few days ago. I still have it a little. I was miserable!!! Neti pot did work wonders. Also just blowing my nose and eating stuff that was non dairy and easy to go down. Tea, soup, etc... Good luck! It will get better...

  • i don't use the neti pot... i use the sinus rise one (very similar, made by the same company, right next to it on the shelf) I like it a lot more then the neti pot, i think it's easier, you squeeze more rather then the pouring. Essentially they do the same thing, i just think it's easier. So if you have trouble with one, you can always try the other. But they work miracles.

  • Thanks for all the input! I picked up a neti pot and will try it today. Hopefully that works - if not, I"ll try the rinses.
  • So I tried the Neti Pot and I can easily say that was one of the most bizarre feelings of my life. BUT it worked so far! Thanks ladies!
