Hello
DH & I are expecting our first! It is important to us that a boy have a masculine name, and a girl have a feminine name. We both love with the name Elliot for a boy. But I've started to see people use it for their daughters.
What do you think? Is it still a masculine name? When you see/hear the name Elliot, do you think boy or girl?

In 2011, there were 2,585 boys named Elliot/Elliott/Eliot/Eliott/Eliut/Eliotte and 635 girls. That's about 4:1 in favor of boys.
Compare that to 2005, when there were 1,537 boys and 215 girls named Elliott/Elliot/Eliot. That's a ratio of more than 7:1 in favor of boys.
Long story short, Elliot is still used predominantly for boys, but the gap is shrinking fast.

I would assume that a child named Elliot is a boy, although when I hear this name I think "intellectual" more than "jock." I think naming a girl "Elliot" is weird.
So if you're looking for a name that's clearly a boy's name, but that's not necessarily a "tough" name, Elliot is a good choice. If you are looking for a name that's really "tough" sounding, keep looking.
This. Just because a female character on Scrubs had the name does not make it unisex or feminine to me.
Yes, it is a boys name. I know alot of parents are taking masculine names that they think sound feminine and giving them to their daughters. They often follow up with "but I want to dress it up with a frilly MN"
The whole trend makes me feel ill.
I think it is a great name for a boy.
This 100%
Also, people that stop using it because a few girls have the name is the reason why boy names "go to the girls". Stop being afraid to use boy names on boys!
Masculine, but moving steadily into the unisex category.
