Anyone else still getting up a few times at night?

LO is STILL waking about 3 times a night to eat. He maxes out at 3-4oz of formula per serving a day and will push and spit it out when he's done. During the day he only eats a total of about 16 oz. At night he'll wake every 3 hours to eat 3-4 oz then passes back out.

Am I alone in this? Or does anyone have suggestions? We are still working on the crib transition but it's so hard to keep him in his room when he wakes so many times at night and is way easier to keep him in ours.

  • I would think he should be eating more at a time and less often. If his weight is good then are you sure he is hungry? Our babies fuss a lot but its not always hunger. Is he possibly teething? Have you talked to your pedi about it? I would start with a call to them to see what they think.

  • Is he still using a slow flow nipple? We had to move DS to a medium flow nipple to get him to take more than 4oz at a feeding. He now takes 6 oz per bottle.

  • We still get up 2 to 3 times a night (we were down to 1 until around Thanksgiving). I EBF, so I have no suggestions for you, but you aren't alone.

  • You're definitely not alone. Ds wakes 2 times to eat at night. When he does take a bottle [ebf] he takes about 5 oz. He just likes to eat? He still nurses 7 times in 24 hours.

This is what I was thinking! His weight is perfect and we did switch to the faster flow nipples but he just doesn't like to eat that much. He can go for like 4 hours during the day without eating then will only have a sip of his bottle then nap. He'll refuse a bottle but will eat pureed veggies sometimes. I think he likes the interaction of spoon feeding better and might get "bored" with the bottle. I'll be bringing this up to the pedi!

  • I could have wrote this post myself.... Ethan is up all night... He eats 28-30 by the time I put him to bed but gets up at 11pm, 2am and 5am.... 5AM is fine because I get up for the morning.....

  • We're in the same boat. DD takes three 5oz bottles and one 4oz bottle during the day then takes two 4oz bottles in the night. However, she splits one of the 4oz bottles into two feeding sessions so I'm up with her three times.

  • We are up 2 to 3 times a night. DS doesn't want to eat; he wants to party.

  • DD wakes up pretty much every 4 hours on the dot.  We have had a few random nights where she slept longer, as long as 8 hours, but those are few and far between.  Our case is a little different though because she is EBF and still only weighs about 10 lbs so she really does need the feedings.  It am so exhausted!!

  • Mina is BFed and has been waking up twice a night. Sometimes we give her a bottle of pumped milk right before bed if she doesn't nurse for very long. That usually cuts it down to one MOTN feeding.

  • Ds2 used to STTN and now he wakes up once or twice.  Usually he cries cause he gets out of the swaddle but if he keeps crying then we'll feed him.

Yep!  DD wakes around 12am and 4am to eat, and very rarely will wake only once (3 am-ish).  AND I'm pretty sure our "wakeful" nights are over, so hopefully it wont become more than this.

  • We are getting up 2 to 3 times a night too for feedings, even though he was STTN up until he hit 16 weeks.

If he is fussy during the feedings make sure to bring him to the pedi. That was the only symptom my LO had and turns out he has a raging double ear infection. You would never know it because he is so smiley except for when you try to feed him.

  • Does getting up 6 times a night count??

  • I should know better than to open threads like this because they just depress me. I would LOVE to only be up 2-3 times/night :(

I think I've read every sleep book on the market. Sigh.
