My dog keeps pooping in the house

I have a 9 year old dachshund and he has been totally housebroken for years and years. He NEVER poops in the house. But since I got mt BFP, he's pooped in the house like 5 times. I can't believe it.

do you think it might be a reaction to my pregnancy?

he's also following me around and won't really let me out of his sight

I think he knows...and he's not happy about it.

Re: My dog keeps pooping in the house

  • Many dogs will follow their pregnant owners around, that is true.  But he could have an illness causing him to lose bowel function, or maybe you've been walking him less since or giving less attention?  It could be a multitude of reasons.  Try giving him more attention first and see if that helps.

Is it snowy where you are?  My little dog hates the cold and won't poop before bed, then sometimes poops overnight on the floor...

  • I was going to say that. My Oldest husky when I was crate training her would never poop in her crate and all the sudden she just started doing it randomly, and I took her to the vet, turns out she had an infection from eating grass outside. They gave her some meds and she was back to normal in no time.

  • Yeah, it's cold outside and snowy, so, maybe that's it. I think I maybe should talk to the vet just to be safe.

  • Lulu (our 3 y/o Wheaten Terrier) recently pooped in the house too. In the future baby's room no less. There is nothing in that room that would even indicate that it's for a baby, and she hasn't pooped in the house since she was a puppy. Also, she's very good at letting us know when she wants to go out... So weird.
  • My dogs hate going out in the snow and cold. They will sometimes go inside during winter. Bad doggies!

  • My dog has been having accidents, but I also have felt so crappy that I'm not giving him as much attention as usual or taking him out nearly enough. Maybe this is the same for you?

If it keeps up though with sufficient outdoor time, I would get him checked out because PP is right, he could be sick.
