Refusing to nurse.

My poor kid is not feeling well. Now he is refusing to eat. We will be calling the peds office first thing but in the meantime, do I need to pump? I would normally feed him two to three times between now and when their office opens.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

Re: Refusing to nurse.

  • Do you EBF? I don't think you need to pump. Your body should adjust to his demand changes as it decreases and eventually increases back to normal. But now would be a good time to pump if you need to build up a stash. Or if you are worried about his input, you could pump and try feeding him with a medicine dropper every so often.

  • I would.

Btw Re: your post below, Oliver had oatmeal for the first time tonight and woke up after two hours a screaming hot mess. He let out a giant burp, ate about 4 to 6 oz from a bottle and me, now he is finally asleep.

I will not be doing oatmeal again any time soon, if ever!!

Hope baby H is feelin better soon!!

  • Has eaten yet?  Keep pumping to maintain your supply.  DS freaked out last night wouldn't nurse and wouldn't take a bottle.  He was just screaming bloody murder.  We eventually calmed him down by singing patty cake and itsy bitsy spider.  Then, he was ok to nurse.  Thank goodness for patty cake and that spider!

we tried oatmeal a few times this weekend and Liam's been pretty fussy since. Do you think it's just an adjustment for him or should we stop and try again in a few weeks?

I did pump. Then he woke up wanting to nurse so I gave him five ounces of the pumped milk. We had a horrible rest of the night. I was thisclose to sending H out for prune juice when he had the biggest poop I've ever seen. Then I gave him his bunny and paci and he is now passed out.

Based on that and how like Anbeck's it was, I'm holding out on food for a little longer. The only reason I introduced it was his ped suggested it to help his mild reflux. If it makes it worse, I don't see the point. Plus whipping out a boob is so much easier...or a bottle.

  • you have enough going on with a sick kiddo. if he's eating something, even if it's only a little, i wouldn't worry about pumping. your supply isn't going to tank because he's not eating well one day.
poor little piggy. i hope he feels better soon. it SUCKS when they're sick.
