Help: How did you get your LO to like liquids other than milk???

My girls are a year and will not drink anything other than their milk.  I've tried water, juice, gatorade...nothing works. They just are getting over the flu and trying to get them to drink fluids was a nightmare.

They just gag at the taste whether I give it to them by a spoon slowly, in their bottle or attempt a sippy (which they aren't good at yet) They know it's not their milk.

Any tips!?

  • You could maybe slowly water down the milk, so first 1/4 water and 3/4 milk, then half and half and so on so they get used to it?

Also, have you tried the staw sippy, my LO never liked regular sippy, but loves using the straw one.

  • They are 10 months adjusted.  I really don't think you should be worrying about this at all.  Are they off formula?  My LO had only bm/formula to 12 months and was on only regular WCM until at least 1 year adjusted.

  • Our pedi okay'd water at 6 months and LO always got it in the same type of drinking mechanism as her milk. Sometimes I think the temperature matters, and other times she'll drink it when it is from mommy's cup! Other times I've diluted her milk to 50/50 when she needs more liquids. The only time i've given anything besides milk or water was when she stopped drinking, even her milk or 50/50 and she started to not have wet diapers. I made peppermint tea, chilled it, and then added a splash of the tea to water and she drank some of that.
  • There is no need for anything other than milk or water.  My 19 mo DD only drinks that, with the occasional water downed OJ or apple juice.  I would not offer Gatorade.  it has a lot of sugar.

  • Keep offering.  Always have a water sippy around.  DD just got it one day.  She drinks water and milk.

I know this. I only offered gatorade because her Pedi told me to due to the fact she was dehydrated from the flu.

We just kept offering.  Always kept a water cup around.  Now he guzzles anything you give him.

If you're worried about them getting dehydrated with their stomach bug, have you tried the Pedialyte ice pops?

Never heard of these, sounds like a good idea. Thanks!
