teething/drool rash

DD has chapped skin on her cheeks and chin, I'm sure its from the constant drooling.  there's no way to wipe it all the time.  Can I put vaseline on it?  it looks so raw and painful :(

Re: teething/drool rash

  • Aquaphor works great for inflamed skin from drooling. It's similar to Vaseline in that it is petroleum based but also contains other ingredients like mineral oil, lanolin and glycerin. If my son has redness or a rash on his skin, I see an improvement in hours using Aquaphor. Vaseline isn't harmful, just not quite as effective as Aquaphor.

  • My pedi told me to put vaseline all over my little E's face.  I thought it was crazy but it worked perfect.  Now whenever I see the first sign of rash I put on vaseline and it clears up very quickly.

Just be sure to dry the area completely before applying.  If any moisture is under the vaseline it will be trapped and continue to irritate the skin.

  • aquafor is the best! Vaseline would work as well. I apply it before bedtime and naps...seems to be when the drooling is the worst.

  • Our pedi recommended aquaphor. She gets it under her lip/chin area at times.
