What is the real deal with drug testing in MA? Is my OB testing my urine at routine appts? I don't recall consenting to that...
If they are, would they tell me if a test came up positive? So I have been drug free for the most part, but I screwed up and used a couple of times. Obviously I feel awful about it, and I'm sure I'll get nasty comments. I just want to know where I stand with the OB but am afraid to ask.
And what about drug testing meconium at time of birth?
Umm. Well, okay. I never thought about drug testing when giving a urine sample at my obgyn, but then again it's never something I've had to worry about. I can't imagine they could do it though without telling you though. I mean, if they see your test comes back positive, are they going to reprimand you? I can't see that happening without your prior consent.
At my first appointment with all the questions they asked straight out are you using drugs. I think they expect people to answer honestly so that if you do say yes, they can go over the dangers and advise you to stop.
I'm sure you know the dangers so just stop now, then you won't have to worry when you go to the doctors. And you won't harm your baby.
but FWIW they are just testing your urine for protein levels. But..yeah...stop doing drugs and its best to disclose to your OB that you have used drugs while pg.
They are testing for protein as that can be a sign of pre-eclampsia a condition that can be harfum to both the mother and the baby.
You should let your doctor know about your drug use and the next time you have a craving call your sponsor (or someone that supports your sobriety), and think of the life you are growing inside of you. Even just 1 time of drug use can have long lasting effects, you may not see them as a newborn, but it affects their brain development. Be strong for your baby and don't do drugs.
I think the first appt they might test for drugs but not the rest. I don't remember consenting but I remember getting the results as part of my overall bloodwork results.
Get help! Your baby needs you to stay healthy and sober.

You've been drug free "for the most part"? What does that mean? Get sober, if only for the sake of your unborn child.
