Moby vs. Woven Wraps?

Hi I'm having my 3rd child and had got rid of all our baby stuff because we thought we were done having kids. Anyway with my first 2 kids I use a Moby untill about 5 months or untill it was stretching to much to wear them around than I used my Ergo. I Like to use a wrap for the little baby stage the best.

My question is Would I get more use out of a woven wrap? can I use a woven with a newborn like the moby? Last question is does anyone reccomend a good place to buy a woven?

Thanks for the help!

Re: Moby vs. Woven Wraps?

  • I could easily still wear by 2.5yr old with my woven wraps (they are thicker ones).  You will get a lot of use of of them.  I didn't get one until she was over a year old, but I know plenty of people who use them from pretty much day 1.

  • I would definitely pick the woven wrap. Like PP said, you can wear a toddler and a newborn. I also like them because I can back carry too. You cannot back carry in the Moby. It's too stretchy.

  • Wovens are great. Check out becomingmamas.com for a ton of helpful information on wraps. Where you buy your wrap depends on your price ceiling. Shops on Etsy like lilperperskeepers are very reasonably priced and I've heard good things about her and her products. Otherwise I'd say buy used so the wrap is already broken in. Check out the forum on thebabywearer.com.

  • Love my woven wrap and i definitely think you could use it with a newborn, though for easy popping in & out of the carrier, a stretchy wrap is better.

You can diy your own woven wrap using 100% loose weave cotton or linen. Google DIY woven wraps for some useful links on how to choose fabrics, etc.
