C-sections

Question about swelling post c/s

I've been reading all the posts on this board and I am curious about exactly what parts of your body swell beside your feet/hands after c/s. Will my face and entire body swell as well?

My OB had me schedule my section for 1/17/13, so trying to soak up evey last bit of info I can before I go in.

Re: Question about swelling post c/s

  • For me it was my legs and feet from being pumped with all the fluid...it was so weird since I didn't swell the whole pregnancy but did after.  It lasted about 2 weeks.

  • My CS was after 31 hours in labor and I already had an epidural so I was given a ton of fluid and I was very very swollen. Every part of me was swollen and it took about a week to go down. Usually its just in your lower half.

  • For me it was my ankles and my feet.

  • Just my ankles and feet as well, that I noticed. Like a PP, I was in labor for several hours before getting a CS, so I had already had quite a bit of fluid pumped into me. Not sure how much you'll get if you start with a CS rather than end up with one. :P

This was exactly my experience as well.

  • After 28 hours of induction meds and IV fluid intake I was swollen everywhere and so was my son.  I am hoping next time with a RCS there will be less of this since pre op  IV time will be much shorter.

  • I wasn;t induced at all.  I had an IV of some type of sugar solution since I am a diabetic and then something else (not mag sulfate) before the surgery and then was PUMPED with a ton of other stuff as I wasn't urinating afterwards.  I had those compression things on my legs too.  When i was sent to my regular room after recovery 24 hours later, I was SUPER swollen.  This was Monday.  As of today (Saturday), a LOT of swelling is gone.  It's mainly just my ankles now and even they aren't THAT bad.

I don't remember this happening AT ALL with DS 3 years ago, and for that, I was induced and then wound up with the c-section in the end and the mag sulf.

  • I had my c-section 10 days ago and I had no swelling after or in any of my pregnancies.
