3rd Trimester

Is anyone drinking the Raspberry Leaf Tea?

When I was pregnant with my DS, the midwife at my doctors' practice recommended I take raspberry leaf tea to help the cervix ripen and therefore easier labor.  I did it with DS and had a good experience so I'm trying it again this time.

Unfortunately the midwife is no longer with my practice so I can't ask her what the other benefits were, I swear she said there were some.

Anyone who is taking this - what were you told are the advantages?

Thanks for sharing!

Re: Is anyone drinking the Raspberry Leaf Tea?

  • My doula has recommended it (approved by OB of course) but she says the tea is not really potent enough to do anything.  She told me to get the tincture (red raspberry leaf tincture) and take it once a day.  I've been putting it in red raspberry tea to hide the flavor a bit anyway.  :)

I was told the advantage is that is strengthens the uterus causing more efficient and effective contractions.  I didn't think it did anything to ripen the cervix, but I could be wrong.  That's what I thought the evening primrose oil is for.

It's supposed to tone your uterus so your contractions are more effective.

This. Also, I think I remember something about it helping your uterus get back to size sooner after pregnancy, and that the raspberry leaf tea is good in general for healthy reproductive organs.

  • I got it at Sprouts Farmer's Market-I think you could get it at Whole Foods also (or a similar store).  I was told to start taking it at 37 weeks, so I started mid-last week.

This is basically what I bought-different brand since that's what Sprouts had when I went.

  • I just bought it today!

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • I will have to look for the tincture!  Thanks!

This is what I found at my local store. Doula wanted me to drink a prenatal tea.
