She climbed out of the crib!

I knew it was going to happen sooner or later but she climbed out tonight. We have a bed in her room so she was smart enough to climb into that instead of the floor.
Dh and I are now trying to figure out what we are going to do about this for tomorrow night.
So far we came up with switching her to the youth bed or trying to lower the crib even more. It is on its lowest setting now so lowering it will not be easy weary have to build some sort of frame for it.
Anyone have any suggestions? TIA!

Re: She climbed out of the crib!

  • My lo climbed out at 15 months! We just converted her crib to the toddler bed, took all toys out of her room and gave it a try. We close her door most nights or put the baby gate up in the hallway so she can't get past our bedroom. Since then sleep has been amazing! She does sometimes get up and get a book or walk around but always falls asleep. Sometimes on the floor and we put her in bed! Good luck!

  • I would switch her to a youth bed.  Might as well try it now since the crib won't keep her in anymore anyway!  We actually just bought a twin bed yesterday and plan to start transitioning this week.

  • I'd go ahead and switch to the youth/toddler bed. I've known people to make the switch earlier than this.

  • We actually lowered the mattress by stacking 2 of them on the floor inside the crib frame. I hope this keeps her in for a little longer. I just don't think she's is ready for the switch. We are still having sleep issues with her and I'm afraid changing her now it will make it worse. So this is our last effort before switching
  • Our crib converts into a toddler bed, so if DD starts climbing out, I'd just go with the toddler bed option rather than worrying about her falling from the crib. She just now started to try to climb into it from down on the floor so I'm worried that she might start trying to climb out soon as well. DH wants to put down some of those foam floor mats around her crib, just in case.

  • DD climbed out of her crib about 2 months ago. We weren't ready to move her out of the crib, so we got her a sleep sack for toddlers. They have feet so she can walk, but keep her feet close enough together that she can't get out of her crib (she can't lift her legs far enough apart). It seemed to have worked for us so far.

  • I switched DS to a toddler bed over a Month ago, because being pregnant it was hard to hoist him sleeping into the bottom of the crib... I'm also short. Now instead of crying in his room at night, if he really wakes up, he opens his bedroom door and comes straight to our room and Sleeps in our bed.

Wow, he can open doors?  I'm definitely not ready for that!  I guess I have seen my DD open the lever type door handle, but so far she can't open our round handled doors!  Thank goodness.

  • We moved Ash staright to the twin that was in his room the night he climbed out. It took a few nights, but he finally gets it. It got much easier when we put a safety rail on it, as opposed to the mattress on the floor. It seems like maybe the side rail is more familiar, and therefore he feels more secure. We didn't take the toys out because  we have no where to put them. But it hasn't really been an issue. Our biggest problem is him coming out of his room (he can open the door now). But last night it only took 2 walks back to bed.
