I'm starting to become slightly concerned about spit up

Mobile: I'm starting to become slightly concerned about spit up

I have never changed my diet while nursing, except to make sure that what I put in my mouth actually nourishes my body.

Oliver is spitting up a lot. Both boys spit up more than Miles but he practically never spit up and I certainly wasn't ever burping him at 3mos. Oliver spits up constantly. I fed him several hours ago, he napped in the swing for a bit, and when he woke, he spit up probably 2 tbsp of chunky curdled milk, then when I went to go change him, almost no chunks, and he spit up another couple tbsp of very watery spit up, then when I got us downstairs another couple tbsp of curdled chunky milk hit the floor.

He's not unhappy or difficult to settle (except when he's with DH- who swears that he hates him). He doesn't poop very often- he pooped on Wednesday and again on Friday but has gone as long as two weeks between poops. Then I fed him and he spit up again.

I suppose the things that I find to be the most concerning are that he is spitting up hours after a feed, and the quick succession of spit ups while having a change in consistency.

DH complains that he's a very stiff baby but I haven't noticed that quite as much.

We have their two month well child exam this week (no judgement- I had it scheduled for shortly after they turned two months but got a better offer and needed to reschedule- 1/2 was the first available ;-) ) and I'll ask there too.

  • I can commiserate.. but have no solutions. DS spits up a lot some days and others not as much. At our one month appt we brought this up, and the DR said not to worry if he is gaining weight. She asked if he looked in pain after eating, which he usually doesn't. Sometimes he will be in pain if we don't burp him quickly enough. We have our two months appt next week and will ask again, because he too spits up curdled milk long after having eaten. But, he is gaining TONS of weight... we'll see. Good Luck.

  • Definitely talk it over with your pedi, but to make you feel better in the mean time, some kids are just spitters.  DS1 had every test in the book.  Was eventualy diagnosed with MSPI and reflux.  Got on meds, and still spit up a ton, even hours after eating.  He literally would spit up a good 0.5 to 1 ounce after most bottles.  He did that till he was close to a year old.  And now he's a healthy 7 year old.

  • I have a happy spitter here, too.  DS was a spitter also, which makes me think it's forceful letdown issues on my part.  My pedi has said spitting up is a laundry and social problem, not a medical one, if baby is gaining weight and happy.
