S/O teething (dumb question)

How can you tell if LO is teething? DD has a cold, so I have attributed stuff like runny nose and red cheeks to that, but after reading the post about red cheeks below I'm not sure...? She has also been drooling a lot, but I have tried feeling around in there and don't feel anything. 

Also, why would teething cause red cheeks?

Both my boys started chewing on everything and then drooling like crazy. Until the teeth popped through I wasn't able to feel anything however I could see how swollen their gums were and can see/saw white lines in the gums where teeth are slowly pushing through. I have no idea about red cheeks. My boys never went through that.

I read about the red cheeks during teething being related to increased blood flow to the gums. Not sure if that is true or not but it makes sense to me.

Our Pedi told us that the redness in the cheeks is due to the drooling.
