Erratic nap schedule from day to day?

Based on what I read here, it seems like many of your LOs have a fairly consistent nap routine from day to day?

DS is 7w old.  Normally, it is a struggle to get him to take one nap during the day.  Often it will take me an hour to get him to fall asleep, before he wakes himself up 15 minutes later.  If I'm lucky, he will do two 1-hr naps in a day.  Yesterday, he was so fussy that the only way I could get him to nap was to wear him in the K'Tan, and he took two 1-hr naps in it. 

Today, he's having a sleep marathon.  He's been napping since 1:30pm (it's now almost 6:30pm).  He woke up twice to nurse, but then quickly fell back to sleep (which never happens).  He has been napping for 4 hours total, without me wearing him or rocking him!  

Is your LO like this or does him/her have a fairly consistent nap schedule?

The only nap that is consistent for us is his morning nap...he will pretty much usually get a good hour to two hour nap about an hour and 15 minutes after he wakes up. After that though, it depends on our day. If we're out and about, he will nap as long as he's in the stroller, but if it stops moving, forget it! I also am trying to figure out how to get his naps more scheduled, but I also don't want him to HAVE to be at home/swaddled in his crib or swing to sleep; I'd like him to be able to sleep on the go.

My LO has no schedule either which is driving me nuts because I'm a very scheduled person in general. He loves to nap on the go in his car seat but at home he's so difficult to put down . Often i will spend an hour nursing and rocking him to sleep for a 10 minute nap. Other days he sleeps for 3 hours straight . Very frustrating !
