Not sure about birth control now

DS was a surprise to us when DD was 9 months old and my cycle got thrown off somehow messing up my attempts at charting to avoid and not using a condom when we should have. I had a hard pregnancy and the whole time told myself that, while I wasn't done having kids, I knew I didn't want to again for at least a couple years. Then, after a hard L&D, while still in the hospital, I even started thinking that maybe we'd start adopting sooner (our original plan has always been 3 bio kids and then adopting #4). But now that I've had some time to "forget" the birth and recover from pregnancy and delivery, and actually enjoy my 2u2, I'm starting to rethink things and reconsider the possibility of getting PG again sooner than 2 years. So now I'm reconsidering asking for the cooper IUD I thought might be good to get, knowing that I wanted a more reliable form of BC (or maybe just less easy to screw up...) that is ok while BFing. Well now I think I might want something less long term (cause an IUD is meant to be more long term, right?) but still not hormonal. So what does that leave? Charting or some sort of barrier method? I'm not excited about either of those. Am I missing something or getting something wrong here? I'm trying to be prepared for this conversation with my OB when I go for my 6wk checkup in a few days and just seem to be going in circles with my research...and advice?

  • Abstinence???? Jk.  I have no advice.  I would condoms are the best option.  Maybe use them all the time and not chart?

  • I only had my IUD for 1.5 years before I got it removed to TTC.  So I dont think they have to be long term.
