Putting down drowsy

For those of you who are successful at putting LO down drowsy what is your process? I hadn't bothered trying becuase i thought it was too early but then his daycare lady told me that she puts him down drowsy for pretty much all of his naps. I've been trying for the past few days but all he does is hangs out for awhile and then cries for me to rock him which I do and then he ends up napping on me. I know it could be worse, at least he is napping. Any thoughts?

When you pick him up only hold him to he settles then put him back in the bed. If he falls a sleep only hold him for 5 min

put LO down like 5 mins after they are sleepy. They mat stir but calm them down for a bit. GL
