Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What do I have to do....

What do I have to do to get this kid to say "mama"? It's like a fun little game with him. I say "mama" and he says "dada" back to me with a huge smile on his face. Such a tease! All day long I hear "dada dada dada dada" to everything. Even in the middle of the night last night he woke up and was playing in his crib and I could hear "dada dada dadaaaa" on the monitor.

I'm not asking a serious question here. I know he's not intentionally saying "dada" to spite me or anything :-) But can't a mom catch a break?

Also, is 9  months too early for a "real" first word? I could swear I heard him say the cats name multiple times yesterday.

  • our DD is babbling, and it happens to be 'mamamamama' i think it is because we call her 'mama', (i've been trying to get her used to her name, but for the last 6+ months it's been mama) so i think she is just imitating that, she will do 'gaga' and 'lala' so far, and very rarely its 'dada'. my hubby wants to make it her official first word, and i am like 'nah man, its just babbling!'

  • My LO says dadadada all day long, no mama sounds at all yet! I swear I hear "words" but I think I'm making it  a big deal when he is just mumbling lol.

  • I don't think there is anything we can do :)  LOTS of repetition and pointing at things.... Good luck and hope you hear the magic words soon!
