PCOS after having LO

If any of you have had PCOS before having LO...

what have your experiences been with it after LO?

My OB said I probably had PCOS since I've never had regular periods.  I used Clomid to conceive DD.  I bf for about 14 months after having DD and got a normal! period at about 10-11 months PP.  Since then I had a period after about 45 days, and they just keep getting closer and closer together.  The last one was about 32 days since my last one!

Does PCOS tend to "fix" itself after having a baby?  Should I expect this to last?  If DH and I want to conceive in the future might it be possible w/o fertility drugs?

Re: PCOS after having LO

  • I used clomid with my first child. After I stopped nursing it took 4 months to get period. Then next one came 7 weeks then about 6 then 4 and I got pregnant naturally with number 2!!! However when went in for ultrasound I would have been 8 weeks bit showed me at 5 so must have ovulated late. After I stopped nursing at 13 months I got a period a few days later and now it has been almost 8 weeks???? So who knows. It was nice conceiving naturally though

  • I have PCOS and stopped nursing at 6 weeks. I got a period about a month or two later. I had 3 or 4 months of on time periods and they stopped all together. Unfort with my PCOS I stop getting periods all together. I was off BC TTC for almost a year with no period. Have they done an interal ultra sound on you? Thats how they discovered I had it. Then my RE found a large cyst on my ovary and they removed it and we conceived naturally. I have heard pregnancy can make it better, but I only get my period bc of BC now.
  • I also have PCOS and required clomid and IUI to conceive our first child b/c of very irregular periods.  Postpartum, my periods were irregular and then once I lost all of the baby weight plus a few lbs. my cycles started to even out at about 40 days (which is the most regular they had ever been).  After about 3 months of those cycles I decided to try OPKs (even though they aren't supposed to work with PCOS).  I figured I probably would ovulate about CD 26.  OPK was positive around CD 24 and we were able to conceive naturally this time around!

  • Until we started TTC I had been on BC since I was 17 so I never knew I had PCOS.  I think mine actually got worse after my twins were born.  I stopped BFing after 9 weeks because my milk supply was horrible from the start and only got worse as time went on.  Once I stopped BFing I didn't get a period for almost 3 months.  It took another 4 months of being on BC to have a regular period.

  • Well I'm not sure because I BF DS 1 until I was about 3 months pregnant with DS2 but it did seen my periods were more regular after DS1. Now I get them every 6-8 weeks and I am on paraguard. The other symptoms of pcos like weight gain acne hair seem a little better though. I will have to see what happens after I'm done bf though. My OB did say pregnancy affects your hormones and can sometimes change the way your body functions and pcos can go away.

  • My story is similar: took forever to get my first period, but little by little they got closer together. Right now I have one every other month. I do think my PCOS has gotten better, and I honestly just -feel- like it will be easier to conceive the 2nd time around. But I know it's not gone. My hormones are stick wack, and even more now with bc. So I dont take bc at all anymore. I feel much better without the added hormonal craziness.
