How to clean waffle maker?

My ILs got me a waffle maker for Christmas.  I'm actually very excited about it, I've never had one before.  If you have one, how do you clean it after each use?  The waffle part doesn't come out.  Do I just wipe it down with a washcloth and call it good? Or do they make one where waffle thingy comes out and you can wash it with soap and water?  I haven't taken it out of the box yet and I have a gift receipt... if there's one that is "easy cleaning" I'd much rather exchange it.  What do you ladies do?

Re: How to clean waffle maker?

  • Some waffle makers have removable plates that make it easier to clean. Ours doesn't have removable plates so we just wait until it's cool and wipe it down with a damp cloth or paper towel. I don't think we've ever had crud get stuck on it, but if we did I'd just use a little scrub brush or old tooth brush to get it loose. I've read that you shouldn't use soap on the the plates of the waffle iron, but whichever one you keep I'd read the cleaning instructions that come with it.

  • Also, no removable plates and we just wipe it down.
