how much milk?

I am on the later side transitioning off the bottles. I decided to get rid of them and my LO is refusing to drink milk from sippys. He will drink water. I worry bc dont they need a certain amt of milk right now for brain development? He dosent eat cheese and is sort of a picky eater. I know ppl say they will get enough from foods, but right now I am not so certain that he is. What is the required milk amount for this age(17 mos?) Did anyone else experience LO refusing milk in sippys? Did it pass?

Re: how much milk?

  • Aside from a 1 day stand off with DD my kids did pretty good with milk from a sippy so not advice their.  My pedi says 12-20 oz milk (ideally 16) for calcium and for the fat for brain development.  When DD gave me a hard time every time she asked for a drink I handed her the sippy with milk she kept refusing until she got thirsty enough to drink it.  This was only over a span of a few hrs.  No problems after that.  Hope it passes soon!

  • It took us 4 different sippy cups to find the right one for milk (DD will not drink milk from the same one she drinks water).  We use this one - https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=15301876

Our pedi recommends 16-20oz a day

  • Once you find out, please let me know because I am in the same boat.  And we own every type of sippy that exists.

  • I'm probably in the minority but our 19month olds still get a bottle of milk in the morning and one at night before bed.  They've always been on the low end of the growth chart so we wanted to make sure they at least got a consistent amount of milk every day outside of their sporadic eating habits.  They get offered sippy cups of milk at daycare and sometimes they'll take it sometimes not.  They drink water and juice just fine out of their sippys.
  • My pedi told us no more then 16 oz of milk a day.  I give them 5 oz at breakfast and 5 oz at night.  They also get other dairy throughout the day which is why they only get milk twice a day.  Our girls started with the tommee tippee soft spout sippy cups.
