Overwhelmed

Last week I started back at work. Since then I feel like I don't have time for anything. I spend my morning pumping taking care of LO and quickly slapping some make up on my face. My evenings are filled with more pumping and trying to get an overtired baby to bed. DH is good at letting him get to tired. How do you working moms do it. I feel like there is no time to cook dinner.... Lots of takeout the past week. No time for laundry, to clean house, or to just take a minute for myself. This makes me want to stay home. Any advice? Does it get easier?

Re: Overwhelmed

  • I'm feeling the same way. DH is also switching to night shift so he'll be sleeping during the day, up for a few hours when I get home, then gone all night. I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and not beat myself up over it. LO is unpredictable at the moment, and though we have a vague routine down, I try to just let the stress and frustration go if things don't go how I planned for when I get home. If LO is fed and happy, DH and I are fed and happy, then I call it a successful night by whatever means it takes to make it happen! GL :)

  • My sister is a working mom with three small kids. Her and her husband both try to do one chore a day on a rotating schedule to try and keep up with the house. Even though yes she does want to clean the whole house everyday she knows she can't. Okay for example: Monday she will do a load of laundry and DH will wipe down the bathroom. Tuesday she will sweep the floors and he will wipe down the kitchen. They just try to at least do one clean up each and that way it doesn't take long and the house is technically always being cleaned. Hope this helps :-) Oh and also the crockpot is their best friend.
  • hugs my friend! I have not returned to work yet but I start cleaning on wed and thursdays. A little every day. Thursday is laundry day and grocery shopping if needed.

Hang in there (easier said than done I know) PLUS as long as everyone eats and can sleep your day is successful my friend!

  • Take it one day at a time.  Just do what you can and know that it is enough.  It was extremely hard for me to realize that my house might always be a little messy and I might always have some laundry waiting to be done.  But my son is the #1 priority and as long as his needs are being met, we are doing ok!
