Doomsday Preppers

Do any of y'all do this?  The zombie posts got me thinking... I in no way believe a zombie or robot takeover will happen (do people really believe this?) but I do think that there is a chance of financial collapse or another debilitating world war in our future.  I like the show doomsday preppers but it spurs my anxiety...should I have a 'bug out bag' or be investing in silver?!  haha!  No, not really, but it does make me feel like I need a store of food/water/basic medical care/gun/knives.  And I'm not joking, but I have had multiple dreams that the world went crazy and since I don't BF anymore and didn't have extra formula my LO starves to death.  Seriously though, if shiz went down and people had to start fending for/feeding themselves rather than rely on all of our luxuries there'd be a lot of people in trouble.

Anways, I thought I'd share that I have a few friends who are SERIOUSLY into this.  Out of my group of friends, three couples are hardcore doomsday preppers.  They have major food/water stores, are loaded up with guns and ammo, and get this - even have bullet proof vests.  One friend bought a bullet proof vest for him and his wife and got a kid-sized one for their 2 year old for free.  Now, he owns a very successful business and I guess can afford to spend extra money this way, but... WHAT?!  His family has a bunker on some land out in the middle of nowhere, has stores of antibiotics and medicine, and they can make their own electricity.  It's crazy.  But that's where I'm headed if something happens!

  • We exercise our second amendment rights, but besides that I think the whole thing is completely outrageous. If the world gets to that point, I'm not sure I want to survive anyways.

  • i talk a big game, but i am seriously effed if anything happens.

i don't own a gun.  i don't shoot.  i don't own any weapons, except for my new wusthov knives.  i barely have groceries let alone an extra surplus.  i'm screwed.

i do have a good milk supply.  i am strong.  i'm a fast learner and a hard worker and i can run for a VERY long time.  i think i'd make a fine addition to a group if the apocalypse should come.  i'm counting on bpaws to teach me the ropes and help me fashion a crossbow out of a tree.

  • i will add, on a serious note, i do think it's a good idea for a family to have an emergency plan.  that is, if there is an evacuation (for example), where would you go, where would you meet, what do you bring, who do you call, etc.  not just for the crazy terrorist, end of the world reasons, but for basic reason as well such as natural disasters.

i think this is especially true if you live in a congested, highly populated area that would be in the line of fire (NY, DC, etc)

  • My ILs and my parents have food storages, just in case something happens. We are encouraged in our church to have a food storage but it is for a personal disaster or natural disaster, not so much a robot or zombie apocalypse. I know of families that have lived off of their food storage because a parent lost a job or something. DH really wants us to have a big storage when we move into a house.

  • We have outdoor skills, shoot, know how to bow hunt, have 2 compound bows, 1 traditional and a crossbow. Know how to set snares, find food. I would do best in the boreal forest. Not a doomsday prepper but we have experience living off the grid, fending for ourselves, tundra and Forest. It just happens that that our activities all revolve around finding food and fieldwork in the middle of no where has taught us to survive extreme weather (that night in -45 degreeC was not fun though).

I agree!  If it's that bad, I hope I just go out with the initial event - atomic bomb, biochemical weapons, whatever.  I don't want to be out hunting with my kitchen-grade Henckels knife with my starving baby on my hip while my skin is oozing off my face due to radiation.  Ha!

  • I am by no means a doomsday prepper, but I can hunt, fish, track, and make my own shelter if I needed to.

The doomsday preppers make me laugh because it seems like they are all planning for a specific event such as the zombie appocolipse, nuclear war, or a global pandemic. Will the world end one day? Probably, but what are the odds that it will be the way they had planned for.

Formula is super easy to find if the world ends. DON'T YOU WATCH THE WALKING DEAD???
