Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Sleeping Arrangements

I was just going to do a clicky poll, but it won't work. Also posted in BMB.

A couple months after baby comes we will be moving into a new 3 bedroom home. Right now we have DSS (Will be 8yo at the time) who lives a state away and comes about once a month sometimes less depending on school and activities. We also have DS#1 (Will be 2yo) and then DS#2 (Newborn).

My questions are:

1. How do we divide up the rooms?

*The baby will be sleeping in a PNP in our rooms for the first few months, but the crib will be set up in one of the bedrooms.

2. Do we put DS#1 in the same room as crib with DS#2?

*I'm wondering if there is a potential for sleeping issues with DS#1 if we do this.

3. Do we put DS#1 and DSS in the same room and share a (trundle) bed when he comes to stay?

*I'm leaning towards this because I feel like there will be sleep issues with the other option and I don't see the need to leave an empty room for only a weekend a month. On the other hand I wonder if we should let DSS have his own room even with the little amount of time he'll be there.

Any advice? Any mom's dealt with this or FTM have any input?

Re: Sleeping Arrangements

  • It would appear from your post that the older child is hardly ever around. When i visited my dad my sister & i (6 yrs apart) slept in my dad's bed and he slept on the couch. I would say to have the two younger children share a room, make the spare room a guest room/step child private area/office and call it a day.

  • The 8 year old can rock the couch and have a sleepover out there.  Nothing wrong with that since he is there so little!
