Tricare What's a good Dr in VB/Norfolk area

Hi everyone! I'm Ashley and my husband is in the Navy currently stationed in Norfolk. We just found out we are pregnant and I'm looking for a good recommendation for a doctor. We live in Virginia Beach. We have Tricare Prime unfortunately so I'm nervous I'm going to get stuck with a crappy Dr and be forced to deliver at Portsmouth hospital : Any advice/help would be awesome! Thanks and good luck everyone! 3

  • Dr. Steven Powers in VB.  He is fantastic and his whole group is easy to work with.  Only delivers at Chesapeake General though.  Great hospital and wonderful staff there.  They took great care of us!

  • You could try The Group for Women, they are pretty awesome and have a bunch of different locations.

  • While I was active duty and stuck with tricare prime, I went to Boone clinic for my ob care. All the ladies there are amazing! And unfortunately, if you stay tricare prime you will be delivering at NMCP. I had my daughter there and have nothing but nice things to say about the staff.

  • Hi Ashley! Congrats to you and your husband! My husband is also in the Navy and we are stationed in Norfolk. We were on Tricare Prime originally and for our first pregnancy we were referred to Portsmouth Hospital. Unfortunately you really have no choice in the matter unless you decide to change to Tricare Standard, which we did. I know it does cost more, the amount I am not exactly sure. But if its an option for you to switch I would recommend it. Its a nice feeling to have control over your own health care and who you want to see. That being said, I would HIGHLY recommend Elite Womens Care in Norfolk (Dr Keisha Burfoot and Dr Sample). They have you deliver at Sentara Leigh Hospital which is right across the street from their practice. This is where we currently have OB care and we are so happy with the experience so far. We are due in May. :) I hope this helps you some. Good luck to you!! Christen
  • I recently had a friend deliver at Portsmouth and she actually had very nice things to say about her experience there. So (although I may disagree), sometimes navy dr.'s aren't so bad.

    Good luck!
