Mirena users come in!

I got mine put it about 3 weeks ago. I started my period 2 weeks ago and it has been unrelenting. Has anyone else had this experience? Isn't it supposed to lessen your period?

Re: Mirena users come in!

  • I haven't had a full period, but I've needed a panty liner or two each day for about 2 weeks. I understood it might take a few months before it was regulated and then possibly not happen.

  • It takes awhile before the bleeding stops. The first time I had Mirena I bled on and off for weeks and then it eventually went away to where I had no bleeding during periods. This is my second time on Mirena and I'm still waiting for the bleeding to completely go away.

  • I've been bleeding off and on, mostly on, for 3 months since getting mine in. Well, spotting more than bleeding. I've rarely needed a tampon. My midwife friend told me to expect that for 6 months. I guess that is making up for not getting a period in the last 3 years.

  • I had light to med bleeding for about five weeks, and nothing at all since.. This is my second  one and it was pretty much the same thing the first time, and then I didn't get another period until I had it removed..

  • I had Mirena before having LO.  I had my period regularly for about 6 months and then it pretty much disappeared.  I would have it for about half a day, very very light.

  • I've had my period 3 times since having mirena put in. It's been very heavy and lasts for about 10 days. My doctor says that's my body making my uterus a not so friendly place for a pregnancy and that it will ease up in about 6 months.
