Startle reflex wtf

I thought we were supposed to have grown out of it by now? This kid is all the way asleep, then startles himself awake with his arms, and trying to roll over. Omg this mommy is so tired! Anyone else not kick this reflex yet?

Re: Startle reflex wtf

  • We are in a constant battle with the startle reflex. Every nap and nighttime is a fight to keep him asleep. It's so annoying.

  • I read it could last up to 5 months.  G still has it, but not as bad as it used to be.

  • I think for some it can last as long as 6 months.  This is one of the reasons we haven't pushed to break LO out of the swaddle yet.  His startle reflex was quite strongm and we've just transitioned to the crib, so I really don't want to rock the boat.  He's also still developing his ability to self soothe to sleep, and the swaddle is a big part of making him feel secure.

  • DS was over this by 10 weeks. The last few days he's been picking his legs up, and slamming them down while sleeping. It drives me crazy because it wakes him up.

DD is mostly over it but now she rubs her eyes in her sleep...rather violently. It wakes her up, too. I have to hold her little hands down if I see it coming.

Yup, my LO is the same.  I'm worried he's hurting himself!  I'm scared to stop using the swaddle!
