Callan vs. Callen?

We really like this as a boy name. I didn't realize it could be a girl name until I looked it up on a baby names website. Does it seem more like a boy or girl name, and what do you think is the most common spelling...Callan or Callen? Thanks!

This is DS's name, pronounced cal/len, so obviously we think its a boy name. I have met one other boy with the name, but spelled with a K, while we spell it Callen, and never heard it on a girl. When we named DS, I had only ever heard the name, never saw it written down, so we went with what we liked. I thought the second A looked funny. We have gotten a lot of compliments IRL, even tho I know its not popular on this board, and still love it!

I personally like Callen better.  I think it looks more like a boys name.  I've been seeing Kellen (Kellan) for a boy too.

It's always been a boys name to me. I like the Callen/Kallen spelling.

This is the name that my husband and I have picked out if we ever have a boy. Just like you I didn't realize it could be a girls name unitl I looked it up on a baby name website. I did spell Callan unitl I seen it Callen. I think either way is acceptable IMO. We are having a hard time putting a middle name w/ it. GL! As you can tell I LOVE the name

I'm not very familiar with this name, but I would assume it was only a boy's name. I'm indifferent on the spelling.

I think of it as a boy's name and prefer Callen.  And thank you for pointing it out because I love it.  Now to see if Dh agrees.  We also love Cian but nobody would know how to pronounce it (Key-in).  Heck, spell check even says it's spelled wrong.

This was on the top of our list for DS and if we have another boy it will likely be at the top again. We planned on spelling it Callen. I have never heard of it on a girl and would assume Callen was a boy unless I was told otherwise.

I've been a lurker forever but I had to respond to this post because our son's name is Callan and we love it! Obviously we prefer the -an spelling.  We've gotten a lot of compliments on his name. And Cal is a great nickname. Good choice!!

It's 100% boy, IMO.

I think that Callen is the preferred spelling.

Ds is Kellen. I prefer en over an. Never saw it with a C before. Famous people with the name are Kellen Winslow and Kellan Lutz
